Abstract
Anticonvulsant medications, often called antiepileptic drugs (AEDs), are sometimes classified by the "generation" in which they were developed and introduced. This chapter focuses on pharmacologic properties and clinical use of second- and third-generation AEDs. These include clobazam, eslicarbazepine acetate, ezogabine/retigabine, felbamate, gabapentin, lacosamide, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine, perampanel, pregabalin, rufinamide, tiagabine, topiramate, vigabatrin, and zonisamide.
