Abstract

Numerous in vitro and animal models have been developed over the years to study the pathology, molecular biology, and response to treatment of brain tumors, especially malignant gliomas. Some of these animal models, including the 9L gliosarcoma, C6 glioma, F98 glioma, and D74-RG2 glioma, will be reviewed in this chapter, in terms of their vasculature and the blood-brain barrier, delivery of therapeutics, including gene therapy and immunological approaches. Boron Neutron Capture Therapy models will also be reviewed. Brain tumor xenograft models will also be discussed in detail in terms of their vasculature and the blood-brain barrier, therapeutic delivery issues, response to chemotherapy, and angiogenesis.
