Complications of trochanteric osteotomy

Trochanteric osteotomy is a valuable adjunct to total hip arthroplasty. The broad exposure it provides is indispensable in certain complex situations. Most clinically significant complications are related to trochanteric nonunion or its sequelae, and are attributable to patient factors or technical error. The sliding trochanteric osteotomy is versatile, affords excellent exposure of both the acetabulum and proximal femur, and has inherent resistance to proximal trochanteric migration.
